Review by Phil Coates
There is something wrong with this restaurant. Following external inspection, entering and sitting down, taking in the usual faux-sumptuous interior and minimal occupants, and for a good while after that, nothing would lead you to suspect anything other than a standard SYIR.
The starters were average, generally underspiced, especially the onion bhaji, the yoghurt sauce ludicrously sweet. The breads were okay, a good average, with the nan spoiled by being noticeably sweet.
It was all going to plan until the main dishes arrived. These days we invariably order them apna style, easy on the ghee, which will do the trick if anything will. What arrived was simply excellent. Of course, I can't promise that you will always get what we got - large tender chunks of succulent chicken in deeply flavoursome sauces, all sizzling hot. The dopiaza really did have onions; the bhuna really did have tomatoes. It is times like these that make it all worthwhile.
